Excursion #1 – The Valley Train to Conway
The 11-mile, 55-minute roundtrip Conway excursion is ideal for visitors wanting a shorter train ride, especially those with young children. On this excursion, you’ll travel south past the Moat Mountain Range and parallel Route 16 before passing through farmlands and crossing Moat Brook, the Saco and Swift Rivers on the way to Conway. Here, you can watch the powerful locomotive “run around” the train in preparation of the return trip.
Excursion #2 – The Valley Train to Bartlett Village
The 21 mile, 1¾ hour round trip Bartlett excursion offers a longer and more relaxing train ride that takes you “over the river and through the woods.” You’re invited to sit back and enjoy the passing scenery as you travel through fields and woodlands, crossing the East Branch, Saco and Ellis Rivers on the way to Bartlett. Here you also have the opportunity to watch the locomotive “run around” for the return trip to North Conway. Through November 23rd, the train will make a stop at White Mountain Cider Company in Glen.
Excursion #3 – the Notch Train
To view some the most dramatic, natural scenery in the East choose the NOTCH TRAIN and travel through spectacular Crawford Notch on tracks that were laid in the 1870s enroute to Crawford and Fabyan stations. The NOTCH TRAIN roundtrip excursion to Crawford Station is a 50 mile, 5 hour roundtrip. Mid-September through mid-October this train operates daily to Fabyan Station extending the excursion to a 60 mile, 5.5 hour roundtrip.
Reservations are strongly suggested for fall excursions. Be sure to stop by the Front Desk at the Stonehurst Manor for your reduced rate voucher. Only a short driving distance away you can experience even more history of the valley at Stonehurst Manor, the beloved boutique hotel that’s only 6 minutes away from the railroad.
